The Royce Abbey Award – Recognising Service, Inspiring Leadership
The Royce Abbey Award stands as a meaningful recognition of service, enthusiasm, and commitment within Rotary. Established in 2004, the Award honours Rotarians who exemplify the spirit of Put life into Rotary – your life, the theme introduced by Royce Abbey AO, DCM during his presidency of Rotary International in 1988-89.
Each Royce Abbey Award is presented by a Rotary Club to a member who demonstrates outstanding participation and leadership in Rotary activities. To bestow the Award, clubs contribute AUD$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation in support of the Royce & Jean Abbey Vocational Scholarship Fund.
This connection ensures the Award not only recognises dedication at home but also funds opportunities abroad — helping emerging leaders from developing nations undertake vocational training in Australia.
Since its introduction, more than 400 Royce Abbey Awards have been presented across Rotary Clubs, contributing over $500,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Each Awardee becomes part of a growing network of Royce Abbey Ambassadors, continuing Royce’s legacy of service and global goodwill.
The Award reflects what Royce believed deeply — that Rotary is most powerful when members act with energy, optimism, and a shared purpose to make a difference.
